Anticipation

I’m going through a tough time now. I’m working long hours, and I can’t say I am loving winter. In fact, Spring is welcome to drop in, any time it feels ready.

Normally when I start feeling like this, I’d start daydreaming about my next trip. I would browse the internet to consider various destinations, maybe even finding a plane ticket, or looking at hotels to stay in.

This is one of my favorite parts of traveling. They say that the more time you spend anticipating travel, the more you enjoy the trip.

And for all that people say you should spend your money on experiences, rather than things, what I do while I’m searching the internet sure feels like shopping. Shopping for expensive luxury items. I definitely get a rush when I buy international plane tickets on sale.

However, my husband and I discussed after our last trip that we might take a break from traveling for a bit. His parents are older and need us in town. I would like to pay off the mortgage this year, so cutting back on expensive vacations will help here. And I’ve just about blown through my vacation time until the end of the (academic) year.

We’ve been fortunate enough to take quite a few big trips in the past 3 years, and we feel we should take it easy. Stop indulging before the treat becomes life as usual.

And yet, my heart yearns for the dream of a trip.
