A Weekend In Numbers

1 National holiday.

3 Visiting children.

2 Visiting parents. Add 2 hosting adults and note that we outnumber the children. Barely.

4 Outings. 2 to a museum, 1 to a nearby green space, 1 to a child-friendly public space.

30 Cents saved on treats at the museum, thanks to our membership. (Money saved on 3 unnaturally blue lollipops, which stained liberally around the mouth, leading to a cyanotic appearance).

11 Admissions saved (5 adult and 6 children) over 2 visits to the local museum.

14 PB&Js. For outings and the return trip home.

10? Hours spent watching kid programming on Netflix. Note that keeping them quiet while the adults slept outweighed principles of limiting screen time.

84 Minutes of children playing happily in a public space meant for them. 3 baskets of toys, 6 stuffed animals, 3 rolling ottomans (great for pushing on the carpeted floor), 2 rocking chairs and 2 easy chairs (for the grown ups) and zero admonitions not to touch things. Much better than Netflix.

60 Hours of hugs, snuggles, snacks, meals, admonitions to go potty, playing with toys, playing with things we didn’t think were toys, reminders to go back to their room to sleep, and grown up conversation once the kids were down for the night.

116 Points scored in the football games that were ostensibly the impetus to have family come visit.

O Lovely decibels from the TV, which was turned off after the family departure this afternoon.

7 Months until they come back. I can’t wait.
