Fitness Log #82 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday Firsts

This week had a number of firsts:

  1. I did my first new patient visit via telemedicine. (All my prior telemedicine ‘visits’ were with people I already knew.) It was a little odd meeting someone new this way.
  2. At the request of my residents, I spent one day on teaching rounds discussing financial stuff, mostly relating to how hospitals and doctors get paid. I think I saw flames shooting out of the tops of their (exploding) heads as they heard this information for the first time.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.

Thankfully, this was not my view as I walked this week.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  I was quite embarrassed about my poor showing last week. I went for a walk; actually, I met a friend as we walked, and we chatted quite a while. My Fitbit registered 42 minutes, which I believe (there were gaps in my walk corresponding to my gabathon).
  • Sunday:  Walked after work, 36 minutes.
  • Monday:  Walked after work, not too long, 20 minutes.
  • Tuesday:  Made it home in time for my Zoom yoga class. 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: Yesterday’s class really took it out of me. I decided to make today a rest day.
  • Thursday: Another rest day. I happen to be tracking my exercise in real time, and can see that I have hit my weekly target, so I feel less pressure to work out. Which is possibly not the best reaction, but so it goes.
  • Friday: Yet another rest day. The weather is not conducive to walking home, and I don’t really feel like exercising after my post-work shower. And I have apparently pulled a muscle in my side. Many excuses, no exercise.

Total: 98 minutes walking and 80 minutes yoga, which I will count as weight training; for a total of 178 minutes of exercise this week. Goal achieved! Though I could have done more, and know it. We will see how next week goes.
