Fitness Log #86 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday Firsts

This week had a number of firsts:

  1. Demonstrations and riots. My city was one of the many in this country to protest after George Floyd’s death and show support for Black Lives Matter. This was the first time that I have lived in a city when this sort of activity was going on, and it was very strange to step outside and hear sirens and helicopters (presumably moving towards the action).
  2. We have a robin nesting on the ledge outside our bedroom window. This is the first time I have seen those robin’s egg blue eggs in a nest. Very exciting for me.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  This was a lazy day for me. No exercise.
  • Sunday:  After yesterday, I needed to take a walk. 35 minutes.
  • Monday:  I walked part-way home from work. 23 minutes.
  • Tuesday:  Zoom yoga, 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: This was a long and stressful day: up early to take someone to a medical procedure, missed breakfast. I was a mess the rest of the day and did not exercise.
  • Thursday: An after work FaceTime training session, 30 minutes.
  • Friday: After a long day of telemedicine, I had hoped to take a walk to the neighborhood bakery, which would have been fair distance. However, I heard a lot of sirens, and decided to take a walk closer to home instead. 19 minutes.

Total: 77 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training, and 80 minutes yoga. The weekly total is 187 minutes of exercise. I think I am meeting my exercise goals. Next week I am back working in the hospital, we will see how things go.
