Fitness Log #114 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so, even on holidays. (Merry Christmas!)

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. My hospital announced it was going to receive a vaccine for COVID-19, and would be contacting people by e-mail to sign up to receive it. I have never checked my work e-mail more attentively, nor replied to an e-mail (once I got it) so quickly.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  This was my first day off in a long while. I eventually went outside for a walk, I was sad to see how quickly my fitness had declined as I huffed and puffed my way around my usual route. 31 minutes.
  • Sunday:  Apparently I was squatting a bit too long yesterday while attending to some neglected cleaning; my hamstrings are quite upset with me. I gave up and let today be a rest day.
  • Monday:  I was supposed to do something today after work, but again gave up and vegged out. The most I did towards exercise was get in touch with my trainer and arrange for a session later in the week.
  • Tuesday:  Zoom yoga after work today was…challenging. 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: Today I worked from home, and exercised indoors too. Another “walking” video, this one was 34 minutes.
  • Thursday: Home early enough to try a walking video before my training session. I would say I got in 14 minutes of walking before my 30 minutes of strength training. My muscles are tired, but it feels nice, sort of.
  • Friday: My ankles are sore from the walking video and the upper back is stiff from computer work. I took a break from aerobic exercise and did a yoga video (Yoga with Adriene’s Upper Back Love). 23 minutes. A great end to the day.

Total: 79 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training, and 103 minutes of yoga this week, for a total of 212 minutes of exercise. I was totally looking at my total all week, trying to make sure I hit my target. Which I did!
