Fitness Log #124 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for several years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. One of my tea friends was in a study this week. It was interesting to hear her talk about the experience, and her conviction she received the active drug, rather than the placebo.
  2. My Fitbit congratulated me on achieving my first Olympian Sandal badge, given for walking 100,000 steps in one day. I would be very excited had I actually walked so many steps. Also, I would be very sore. Unfortunately, my Fitbit went on the fritz and counted all those steps while lying unattended on my bedside table. Also of note, it took 1,439 minutes (which equals 23 hours and 59 minutes) to walk all those steps.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

Somehow this winter scene looks much more attractive than my winter scenes.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  No exercise today. The day slid by and before I knew it, it was too late.
  • Sunday:  None today either. It looked beautiful outside (for winter), but I didn’t think it was really a good idea to go out: slippery roads and a bad air warning. I could have done an exercise video, but I watched the Australian Open finals and blogged, instead.
  • Monday:  After work today, I did a 28 minute yoga video. I sense that tomorrow’s Zoom yoga class will be quite uncomfortable.
  • Tuesday:  Zoom yoga after work was, indeed, uncomfortable. 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: I was able to take a walk outside today. I am not sure quite how long it was, as my Fitbit is on the fritz (see above). I did look at my watch part- way through my walk, and will estimate 35 minutes. The walk was slow, as I shuffled along unshoveled icy sidewalks, asked sore leg muscles (see yesterday’s yoga class) to perform, and generally huffed and puffed due to deconditioning.
  • Thursday: I met with my trainer after work today, everything was still sore from Tuesday. Nevertheless, I worked out for 30 minutes.
  • Friday: I was very slow at work today, and didn’t finish before dinner time. Thereby thwarting my plans to walk enough to meet my weekly goal.

Total: 35 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and 108 minutes of yoga this week, for a total of 173 minutes of exercise. I missed my goal for the week, but at least beat my sad total from last week.
