Fitness Log #150 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I found a staircase in the hospital I didn’t even know was there. After almost 20 years, this was a surprise. Unfortunately, it was locked at my destination floor, so I had to return to my starting point and wait for an elevator. Sigh.
Also, I dressed up for a dinner out, but not this formally.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  Took a walk for 44 minutes. I gardened for the first time in weeks for while–I didn’t think it was really exercise, but my hamstrings had a lot to say about this the next day.
  • Sunday:  Practiced tennis with Mr. PiN. 34 minutes around noon left me gassed for the rest of the day.
  • Monday: Work ran late and I had to reschedule my session with my trainer. Instead I took a walk around the neighborhood for 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday: I spent a long visit with a patient who turned out to have an infestation of contagious insects. My exercise this evening was washing and baking my clothes in the dryer, and scouring myself in the shower. Ick!
  • Wednesday: My rescheduled session with my trainer, 30 minutes.
  • Thursday: A short walk after work, 18 minutes.
  • Friday: Work ran long, and then we had dinner plans. With other people! No time for exercise today.

Total: 92 minutes walking, 34 minutes of tennis, 30 minutes of strength training, and still no yoga, for a total of 156 minutes. Given the uptick in my work, and the fact I can’t make it to yoga class, I may need to re-evaluate my goals. I don’t want to be lazy, but I also don’t want to set myself up for failure each week. (Also, I am wondering if my tennis time might actually count as high intensity exercise.)
