Fitness Log #151 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I took my first flight since the pandemic hit. The airport was definitely quieter than when I was last traveling, though it was not deserted. I should not have been surprised to see so many people wearing their required masks ineffectively (the chin mask), but I was. Probably because I work in a hospital where people know what they are supposed to do. Anyway, it was very exciting to get on a plane, and enjoy a take off.
So excited to see this view in person.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  I was too tired to work out today after eating at a friends’ house the night before (can you get a socializing hangover?).
  • Sunday:  Still tired, and on-call: no exercise.
  • Monday: An appointment with my trainer meant I got 30 minutes of exercise today (finally!).
  • Tuesday: I slept poorly (likely due to stress over unfinished work) and dragged all day. I did not have energy to much besides lie on the sofa after work. No exercise.
  • Wednesday: A busy day, seeing new patients and catching up on earlier notes. No exercise.
  • Thursday: Walked partway home–not even 1/2 way, but maybe a 1/4 way. I felt better than I was expecting to. 13 minutes walking.
  • Friday: I went to the airport and did not measure my walking time. Had I been wearing my Fitbit and been able to get my report, I suspect I would have put in more than yesterday, but I will forgo an estimate.

Total: 13 minutes walking, 30 minutes of strength training, no tennis or yoga; little exercise but lots of stress. Not the best week at all.

I am not sure about my plans to continue yoga if I don’t have the accountability of a live class. I certainly need to figure out how to arrange my schedule to manage some exercise, even during weeks I am behind on my work.
