Fitness Log #170 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. Omicron is all over the area, and I asked Mr. PiN not to go shopping this week (he made it until Friday). We used a grocery delivery service for the first time in over a year; the system is much better.
  2. We have a page a day calendar of art from The Metropolitan Museum of Art (hence, all the images I pull for the blog). For the first time ever, I actually found a work by Mondrian attractive. (This one, which still has rights reserved so I can only send you to the Met’s website.) I don’t know what’s come over me.

Fitness Log

For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

I decided to look for something more modern, but found nothing like the Mondrian. I thought this was interesting, though. Tasker, William. National Defense. The Metropolitan Museum. NY, NY. www.metmuseum.org.
  • Saturday:  I did my PT exercises (they only take 4 minutes, not counting the time between reps). Also, Mr. PiN cleared out the basement so we could hit against the wall: 15 (somewhat frustrating) minutes for me.
  • Sunday:  It was another indoors day for me, mostly spent lounging on the sofa. I did do my PT exercises again before dinner, we’ll call it another 4 minutes.
  • Monday: My trainer went away for the weekend and can’t get home. We are rescheduled for later in the week. I thought I could get more exercise in on my own, but with one thing and another, I only did my PT exercises after dinner.
  • Tuesday: I had big plans when my afternoon appeared to end early, only to realize I finished my work at home in time for a late supper. :-(. I did my PT exercises again, though.
  • Wednesday: My rescheduled session my trainer. 30 minutes.
  • Thursday: I was sore and stiff today, and had a long day at work. I decided to rest this evening.
  • Friday: Today I wasn’t feeling great, with some sore muscles but also a suspicious malaise and a little discomfort in the left oropharynx. I elected not to exercise today either.

Total: No walking, 30 minutes of strength training, 15 minutes hitting a tennis ball against the basement wall, and PT exercises 4 times (I will call it 16 minutes). This totals to 61 minutes: clearly a miss as far as time spent exercising, but a win as far as doing my PT. We will see if my malaise lasts into the next week, heralding other issues.

  1. Congrats on the PT at least!!! And at least one strength training session. I really miss the gym weights (sigh) but we stopped going during the delta surge and now of course… omicron. I got exercise bands with handles as a gift but have only managed to use them once thus far. Wish me luck next week!

  2. Thank you for the encouraging words, C. This time of year is the most challenging for me for exercise: when it’s cold, and dark, and the sidewalks can be dangerous. I have to work on my inside exercises.

Exercise bands can give a great work out; I think you will be happy with the results once you get in the groove of using them. Good luck with that next week!
