Fitness Log #239 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts (or maybe a Fabulousness)

This week’s firsts:

  1. I thought I saw a gargantuan bee in our garden, but realized it was really a hummingbird. I haven’t seen one since living in this town. It was very nice.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

A rocky seashore
Time for one last walk along the shore?
  • Saturday:  The last full day at the shore, I walked on the beach at low tide, 1 hour and 20 minutes. I was quite worn out after 3 days of heavy exercise, and was really dragging at the end. Nevertheless, Mr. PiN and I persevered, and hit the tennis court in the late afternoon. We played tennis and pickle ball for about 40 minutes.
  • Sunday:  This was a travel day, with a short stop at my childhood home. Mr. PiN and I were both happy to let our legs have a rest day.
  • Monday: The morning was spent finishing our trip. I was still pretty worn out from all our exercise, and declined to go for a walk. I did unpack, do laundry, and weed for nearly an hour, though.
  • Tuesday: I thought it was time to talk an early walk while the morning air was fresh. I went 52 minutes, but definitely felt it later in the day when I was running errands. The late afternoon (for less sun exposure) was spent pulling weeds.
  • Wednesday: A tennis lesson today. I will call it 1 hour, though there were certainly plenty of stops to drink water (it was hot! on the courts today).
  • Thursday: Back at work, with a 20 minute walk to the pick up point at the end of the work day.
  • Friday: This was a super-long day. After spending double digit hours at the computer, I was too tired to contemplate exercise. Especially since I was pretty sure I’d hit my weekly goal.

Total: 152 minutes of walking, 100 minutes of tennis/paddle sports, and weeding. I would say that vacation proves that (a) I can do a lot more exercise than I do when working and (b) I am not super-conditioned.
