Fitness Log #254, Friday Firsts And Fabulousness, And Monthly Goals

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years (almost 5!), and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Friday Firsts

I didn’t really note any firsts this week that I want to share on the Internet.

Painting of a young man, with red hair, wearing a black tunic over a white shirt, left hand on the sword at his hip.
He doesn’t look like he wants to share his thoughts either.

Some Fabulousness

  1. I don’t know how fabulous this is, but I was finally inspired to get rid of (most) of the piles of unread magazines and journals in my living room. I realized that looking at them filled me with dread when I thought about sorting through them, instead of excitement at what I might read. That was the point at which I was willing to put them willy-nilly into the recycling.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  I was exhausted after getting my shingles vaccine, I got no exercise at all.
  • Sunday:  I walked home from the bakery after getting a ride to the Little Free Library nearby. 31 minutes
  • Monday: My arm was still sore from my vaccination, so I didn’t mind when my trainer didn’t have me on her schedule. I did take a short walk, 20 minutes.
  • Tuesday: Mr. PiN was out an about, and picked me up from work directly. And then I had a boatload of work to catch up on. No exercise.
  • Wednesday: A tennis lesson, my first in a month. I was quite rusty. 60 minutes of poor, but active, play.
  • Thursday: A walk part-way home to my pick up point. 20 minutes.
  • Friday: I walked around the track with Mr. PiN for 16 minutes and then, realizing I hadn’t quite reached 150 minutes of exercise for the week, we walked around the block when we came home, pushing the total to 21 minutes.

Total: 92 minutes walking, 60 minutes tennis, for a total of 152 minutes.

Monthly Round Up

  • Exercise goals (150 minutes per week; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards): Each week (2 working in the hospital, 2 not) I barely met my goal–no amazing feats of fitness–but I met my goal all 4 weeks! Woot!
  • PT goals (do at least 3 days a week): Nothing, nada I keep this on here as a reminder and aspirational goal.
  • Clutter goals: I don’t know that I cleared much clutter this month, just 3 grocery bags of unread journals and magazines, on the very last day. But Mr. PiN cleared a ton of clothes–I choose to believe I inspired him to do so.
  • Local Adventures. I had two, both in the same week: a trip to a new tennis court (very scenic location), and to the local science center for my birthday.
  • MSKAP (2 study sessions per month with my friend, or read through one topic on my own): Nothing to see here. Though I believe my goal excused me in months that I work in the hospital, as I just don’t have the time or bandwidth.
  • Social activity (one in-person activity per month). For the second month in a row, I have to say I missed on this goal. That might be part of why I lately feel like all I ever do is work and come home.

I hope you have had a good week as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
