My Favorite Posts By Other People, October 2023

I usually read a lot of blog posts every day. Mostly on personal finance, but also on minimalism and travel . Here are some of my favorites that I read in October.

A herder is silhoutted against an orange sky, standing on a rock and blowing a horn. Two cows are in the foreground, and the herd is in the background.
I thought an orange and black picture might be appropriate with Halloween approaching.

No Sidebar had a nice post on lifestyle creep: The Silent Thief of Your Pay Raise. A good reminder that a bigger paycheck isn’t the only answer to money issues.

Budget Life List likes to use her paycheck for savings. She explains why in Why I Prefer Savings Over Stuff.

At Rich In What Matters, Julie Ubbenga offers up an inspirational tale of what decluttering can do for a person’s mindset (and productivity) in Change Your Environment, Change Your Life.

A different way to change your mental space comes from Joshua Becker at Becoming Minimalist. His post “I Can’t” Leads to Despondency, “How Can I” Leads to Possibilities came at a good time for me. I will try to remember to describe my challenges the second way for a while (“How can I get all my notes done and review results and respond to messages, while still making time for friends and family?”) and see if it helps. (Though I think a vacation will do more for me in the short run.)

Karen Trefzger posted at No Sidebar, reminding us that grit isn’t always what you want. Why Quitting Today Might Be the Right Thing to Do points out the benefits of letting go of pursuits that just don’t fit you.

Over at Humble Dollar, Juan Fourneau’s post The Tree We Sit Under is an inspiring look at several ways family support can improve the lives of the next generations. Generational wealth indeed.

I am not sure I am ready to get rid of all of my belongings and travel the world as a nomad, even though I fantasize about taking overseas trips that last more than 10 days. Julie at Juliedvivre.com looks back on her 3 Years Nomadic, with lots of advice and lessons, which I found quite informative.

When it comes time for me to retire, I may not go 100% nomadic, but I hope to have a plan. Over at Can I Retire Yet? a reader case reminds me that I may have a plan, but it might not play out as I think. The Best Laid Plans… was an inspiring look at someone’s real retirement. Enjoyable and instructive.
