I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.
I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.
Friday Firsts
This week’s firsts:
- I visited my parents for just a weekend for the first time in over a decade (a quasi-first).
- I played tennis on a clay court for the first time (a true first).
Fitness Log
As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.
How did I do?
- Saturday: Walked from my parents’ house to the local park, played (practiced) tennis with Mr. PiN, and then walked back. 60 minutes walking and 40 minutes tennis.
- Sunday: Again walked to and from the park (we made the round trip in just 57 minutes this time), with 20 minutes of tennis today.
- Monday: A 34 minute walk in my neighborhood–possibly a bit slow as my hip was sore after all the exercise in the prior days. I note I have now hit my weekly goal with 3 days off. It looks like my work is getting in the way of my fitness.
- Tuesday: I was pretty tired and my hip was sore. But I went for a short walk with Mr. PiN in the afternoon, 21 minutes.
- Wednesday: Hip was still sore, I decided to rest today.
- Thursday: My hip was a little less sore, but work made for a long day. It was nice to rest today, knowing I had hit my exercise target for the week. We will see if I am lazy tomorrow, or can push myself to get a little more movement in for the week.
- Friday: I took a walk after work, for 3o minutes. My hip says I should have taken a shorter one.
Total: 202 minutes walking, 60 minutes of tennis, no yoga (skipped class), and no strength training (trainer on vacation), for a total of 262 minutes. An easy victory to get enough time exercising while I was off work a few days. The challenge is getting this done while also getting my work done.
