Fitness Log #87 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

During this pandemic, though, things change so rapidly, I want to acknowledge some of the ways we are coping with it. I am keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Friday Firsts

This week had a few firsts:

  1. I got to see baby robins in the nest outside my window.
  2. I realized I had a choice of fashion masks for personal use (work-issued surgical masks at work, of course).
  3. My regular resident had to take a leave, and I got to work with 4 different residents leading my team in 1 week. They were all great, but switching every 1-2 days was difficult.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my goal is to make sure that I at least 150 minutes a week of moderate exercise. I am working towards incorporating strength training into my week, with a goal of 60 minutes.

How did I do? See the illustration below:

  • Saturday:  Long day at work, with helicopters and sirens when it was time to walk home. I caught a ride, and got no exercise today.
  • Sunday:  I did catch a walk between work and video tea with my girlfriends. 34 minutes.
  • Monday:  One of my longest work days in a while. No time to exercise today.
  • Tuesday:  Another long day, no way to be home in time to do Zoom yoga. Or any other exercise, for that matter.
  • Wednesday: A long day, no exercise.
  • Thursday: I came home early enough that I took a short walk in the neighborhood. 22 minutes. Not early enough to keep my appointment with my trainer.
  • Friday: Long day, no exercise.

Total: 56 minutes walking and no weight training. A total fail as far as meeting my goals; on the other hand, my patients got taken care of. I suspect next week will be about as bad, but we will see.
