Fitness Log #108 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. For the first time in many years, I was home in time for trick or treating. That was fun.
  2. Even better, I didn’t stay at home (our neighborhood currently doesn’t get much action). Instead I took a long refreshing walk, enjoying decorations, candy chutes, even a clothesline with pinned treats. I saw more people out and about on my usual route than I have ever seen, and it was wonderful to see all the costumed kids and adults, having a great time. It makes me wish we had Halloween more than once a year.
A different kind of trick or treat experience

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  A 53 minute evening walk during the trick or treat hour, ever so much fun. And, I noticed the Marie Kondo book was gone from the Little Free Library.
  • Sunday:  I had planned to exercise after work, but I was too comfy on the sofa. Maybe tomorrow.
  • Monday:  Waiting until today was clearly a mistake, as work got crazy in the late afternoon. No time to exercise.
  • Tuesday:  Today was a crazier day, and I was working from home until late. No exercise.
  • Wednesday: A busy, crazy day at work, but I was able to get out early enough to exericse. I had planned to walk part-way home from work, but with the time change, it was too dark to feel comfortable on that route. Instead, Mr. PiN parked the car near home, and walked together. It was so good to get outside and move. I only walked for 22 minutes, but would have liked to have gone longer.
  • Thursday: I had hoped for a walk after work, but it was too dark. Instead, after work but before I logged in from home, I did my strength training routine. Without my trainer it was a little shorter, and probably not as intense. Definitely not as fun. 25 minutes.
  • Friday: It was too late to go for a real walk after work, but Mr. PiN and I went for a walk around the block after parking the car. I won’t estimate a duration, we will call it a freebie.

Total: 75 minutes walking, 25 minutes strength training and no yoga this week. I met my hospital goal of 90 minutes of exercise, but I am starting to realize why I am so cranky when I do hospital work: no sun, no exercise, no time for fun. Blech.
