Fitness Log #113 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I had a student tell me they were too busy for teaching rounds. That was a first that nothing else could touch this week!

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  This was a long day at work, I was ready to nap at my desk (which I did not). There was no exercise when I came home.
  • Sunday:  Today was a shorter day, and I actually walked outside (!) when I came home. This was my first outside walk in over a week, it was lovely. 20 minutes
  • Monday:  Came home early from work, and did my strength training routine before dinner. 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday:  Again came home early from work, but not before dark. I tried another “walking video,” this one was 19 minutes long.
  • Wednesday: A pretty stressful day. I was home early enough to work out, but somehow that didn’t happen.
  • Thursday: Home early enough to work out before dinner and then work more from home. I suspect tomorrow will be a late day (no exercise time), so I looked for a 22 minute walking video. With one thing and another, I ended up going for 28 minutes.
  • Friday: After work, Mr. PiN and I went for a short walk to look at the night sky. We had heard Jupiter and Saturn were very, very close; but they looked about the same as a few weeks ago. It was still nice to get out of the hospital and look at nature. I knew I had already hit my exercise target this week, so I will keep this walk as a freebie.

Total: 67 minutes walking, 30 minutes weight training and no yoga this week. Since my goal was 90 minutes of exercise on hospital weeks, I made my goal with a little to spare, with a total of 97 minutes. It makes such a difference in how I feel! Next week, it’s back to the other goal: 210 minutes. We will see how I do.
