Fitness Log #115 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s first, just one, but a big one:

  1. I received vaccine #1 for COVID-19 this week.
I got off lightly, but this year has been the pits. Goodbye, 2020!

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. If I am working in the hospital, I will relax my goal to 90 minutes for the week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

This week was a hybrid, 1/2 clinic, 1/2 hospital. I thought I would shoot for an average of my goals, and set 150 minutes as my goal for the week.

How did I do?

I was distracted by all the things I had to finish before the end of the year, and the allure of some time off (my first since the summer).

  • Saturday:  I was tired, and didn’t feel like going outside. Or, apparently, exercising indoors. No exercise.
  • Sunday:  Worked on many projects, but not my exercise. No exercise today, either.
  • Monday:  Went to work, dropped off something for a Buy Nothing group member, worked on my year-end projects. Still no exercise.
  • Tuesday:  Zoom yoga after work was incredibly painful (note to self: do not sit on butt for nearly 4 days and then do a long yoga class). 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: Today was a very long day, but also exciting. I got my first dose of the COVID vaccine today! I decided against working out.
  • Thursday: I was worried I would have side effects from the vaccine, but so far, nothing much. A sore arm mostly, nothing surprising. I felt tired and had a headache after dealing with several challenges with the hospitalized patients, but that really isn’t anything new. I did give myself a break on the exercise today, too. Just in case.
  • Friday: I came home from work and just wanted to finish all my notes. Then I realized that I was not going to make even my minimal goal of 90 minutes of exercise a week. I picked a 10 minute yoga video, which felt really nice, and was over quickly. In time for dinner.

Total: 90 minutes of yoga, and that was it. I am a little disappointed in myself for not exercising for most of the week. On the other hand, at least I got 90 minutes in, not to mention my vaccine. Next week I have many days off, I will work on hitting 210 minutes of exercise.
