Fitness Log #123 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over a year, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I was doing telemedicine visits this week, and when I started a visit with one patient, he needed me to hold on a minute–he was trading stocks. (There might have been a few admonishments about gambling and avoiding leverage before we got down to medical issues.)

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise during a regular week. At least 60 minutes of my exercise in a normal week should help with strength training; right now, I count yoga as part of this category.

How did I do?

Yeah, I didn’t do so well either.
  • Saturday:  A walk outside, my first in nearly a week. The conditions weren’t great (thank you, winter, not!). 23 minutes.
  • Sunday:  A friend texted me: she broke her arm walking outdoors. I decided I should do an indoor yoga video, 30 minutes.
  • Monday:  The day slid by without any exercise. Though I did enjoy watching a fire in our fireplace.
  • Tuesday:  A work-from-home day, 12 hours’ worth (ugh!). I had to miss my Zoom yoga class, again.
  • Wednesday: Fireplace fail (poor drafting, despite the fact the chimney worked fine 2 days ago) means the house is smoky and I am not sure I should be breathing heavily until the air clears. Which seems to be taking all day. (Darned pandemic, I could have gone out and loitered for hours if all loitering places weren’t closed!)
  • Thursday: My trainer had to cancel our session, and the house is still smoky. No exercise.
  • Friday: I finished work early on time today, and decided it was time to go into the basement (which doesn’t have such a smoky smell) and do some strength training. I pulled out my list of exercises from the fall, and somehow got through them all in 23 minutes. I hope this means I am more fit, and not just slacking.

Total: 23 minutes walking, 23 minutes strength training and 30 yoga, for a total of 76 minutes. This is pretty sad, I didn’t even hit the goal for a hospital week. Clearly, missing my 80 minute Zoom lesson is hard to overcome. Bad weather outside makes exercise challenging too, since I didn’t feel safe walking. We will see if I can get back in the groove next week.
