Fitness Log #128 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I saw the first crocus and daffodils of the season blooming on my walks. They are on sunny yards only; ours have yet to show their colors. Soon, I hope.
  2. I had a COVID exposure this week (now! so late in the season!). Happily, I am already vaccinated. And I always wear my mask at work (does anyone really drop it?). This is considered a low risk event, but still I am annoyed with myself. And the patient, who knew better.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 90 minutes a week of moderate exercise if I am working in the hospital, which is what I am doing now. During a regular week my goal is higher, 210 minutes.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  A walk after work lasted 40 minutes.
  • Sunday:  A late afternoon walk, this time for 35 minutes. I am thinking with these two walks under my belt, I should be good for my 90 minute goal. We will see if this is a fair assessment, or hubris.
  • Monday:  I was able to walk after work again today; I saw lots more flowers. Spring residents, good luck with admissions, and improved outdoor conditions meant I was able to go yet again! 34 minutes.
  • Tuesday:  I had a cranky day today. Instead of returning home in time to attend Zoom yoga, I came home later, and didn’t even bother to consider exercise. Since I’ve already met my goals for the week, I suspect this is behind my disinclination to move tonight. I will have to work on this.
  • Wednesday: This day was about 2 weeks long. I did get out for a walk after work, but tired out quickly. I did make it 23 minutes. I also had to stare down 2 deer on the cut through to my driveway.
  • Thursday: It was a very busy day today, I didn’t finish all my notes until quite late. No exercise today.
  • Friday: This was the last day before a vacation (or time off, at least). I worked late to clear the decks. No exercise for me.

Total: 132 minutes walking, but nothing else. Still, I beat my new goal for hospital weeks, by a bit (didn’t quite meet my old goal, or do anything for strength training). I think those walks earlier in the week were very good for my mental health, as well as physical. Next week I am back to my bigger goal: 210 minutes, with at least an hour of something for strength training.
