Fitness Log #134 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I helped teach a course that was new to me, coaching students at the end of their second year (getting them ready to rotate through the hospital). I had a lot of fun; I think they were a bit nervous.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

I hear April showers will bring May flowers.
  • Saturday:  We went back to the tennis courts. This time I brought my phone and kept track of time. Subtracting a few minutes of fixing the net, and getting a drink of water, I will say I spent 50 minutes practicing. Though, really, half that time was spent running after balls.
  • Sunday:  I got a lift to the bakery and walked home, off-loading a book in a different Little Free Library. 32 minutes walking.
  • Monday: Still not used to my new schedule, but I still made it to my (virtual) training session this evening. 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday: It was a long afternoon of clinic. Now that my Zoom yoga class has been moved later, I took a short walk (20 minutes) to get the fidgets out. My legs are sore from yesterday, I am a little worried how they will feel in yoga. A little while my answer is: sore. Zoom yoga for 80 minutes.
  • Wednesday: Walked home from the post office (hitched a ride there) before going into work. 25 minutes. Tomorrow is a long day, I do not think I will be exercising at all.
  • Thursday: I was scheduled for a 12 hour day, and had no plans to exercise. At the last minute, I was excused from my evening obligation, and was able to go home at a reasonable hour. I still declined to work out, and took a rest day. No exericse.
  • Friday: A long day in front of the computer (I think my eyes were bothering me). I was very happy to take a walk after work, 28 minutes.

Total: 105 minutes walking, 50 minutes of tennis, 80 minutes of yoga, and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 265 minutes. This feels much better. In fact, I wish I could spend more time walking outdoors now that spring is here.
