Fitness Log #137 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 2 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. Dealt with the death of someone in the family who was nominally my generation (though, given it was an in-law, and there are some significant age differences, the person who passed was only 3 years younger than my mom).
  2. Saw a dance performance in the park. And enjoyed it.
Yes, I saw ballet on my walk home!

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  We played tennis for 37 minutes. It was much warmer today (plus we had to wait for a court, so we played closer to noon); I was tuckered out for the rest of the day.
  • Sunday:  It was a crazy day. No exercise unless you count running in circles.
  • Monday: A short walk after work. 19 minutes.
  • Tuesday: Walked to and from work, 45 minutes each way, for a total of 90. I stopped part-way home, there was a live show on a stage in the park. It was great to see performing arts live, even if just for a few minutes, from far away. I missed my yoga class, but it was worth it.
  • Wednesday: Walked into work, but got a ride home. 45 minutes.
  • Thursday: Evening walk, 34 minutes.
  • Friday: Skipped exercise today, trying to clear work to enjoy the weekend.

Total: 188 minutes of walking, and 37 minutes of tennis. No yoga, no strength training. A total of 225 minutes of exercise, though I didn’t make my goal for strength building. I was glad to see I could still hit my exercise goals without a teacher or trainer pushing me (though things are better when I attend my classes).
