Fitness Log #160 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I had vacation scheduled for next week for ages, but hadn’t made firm plans because of COVID. And sick parents and in-laws. Once the situation was clarified, I booked several plane tickets and a hotel less than 7 days before leaving. I am not usually so into spontaneity.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  I was exhausted and couldn’t bring myself to exercise, indoors or out.
  • Sunday:  Last year I had so much fun walking during the trick-or-treat hour, I did it again. I love seeing everyone dressed up, and this is the one night of the year you actually catch all the neighbors. 42 minutes.
  • Monday: A walk after work, 20 minutes. My trainer had to cancel at the last minute.
  • Tuesday: A long day today, and an immunization. No exercise.
  • Wednesday: Today did not go as planned. I did get a short walk part way home from work: 13 minutes.
  • Thursday: A beautiful walk after work. I was frustrated with the silly stuff of medicine (and some annoying patients), and felt so much better after my 42 minute walk. I feel like this is a lesson I have to relearn every few months: for better mood, go outside and move.
  • Friday: An excellent walk in the fall dusk, after a stressful day at work. 41 minutes.

Total: 168 minutes walking, no tennis, no yoga, and no strength training. I didn’t meet any of my goals for exercise, and it didn’t feel so great. I don’t care though; I am going on vacation and plan to get lots more exercise while I am out of work.

I have written before, if I could exercise here every day, I would be better about it. Well, guess what? I’m going back!!!
