Fitness Log #169 And Friday Firsts (Omicron Edition)

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. My brother and his family (2 vaccinated school children, 1 preschooler who can’t be vaccinated, and an adult with increased risk for a bad COVID case) won’t be coming to visit for MLK weekend. They sent flowers instead.
  2. Our office is having such issue with staff (mostly related to exposures after Christmas/New Years), we are having to reschedule in-office visits or convert to telemedicine. We don’t have enough bodies to register, room, and check out patients. Don’t even get me started on the phone and e-mail messages.

Fitness Log

For the first few months of 2022, my goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

A trio of young ladies in a field, one giving money to a young girl. They are accompanied by a little dog, who is staring down 2 cows.
I did find time to explore The Met’s website. Courbet, Gustave. Young Ladies of the Village. 1851-1852. The Metropolitan Museum of Art. NY, NY. www.metmuseum.org.
  • Saturday:  I spent most of the day in a stupor, after the late night to ring in the New Year.
  • Sunday:  Today I had more energy, but still didn’t get out for a walk.
  • Monday: A much better day today, with a 19 minute walk (I guess I felt better, because this usually takes me 21 minutes), and later a 30 minute session with my personal trainer.
  • Tuesday: It was shaping up to be a good day for exercise, and then I realized that the office nurse had been unable to keep up with messages. I spent 2 hours after work (and lost my opportunity to walk in daylight) catching up. I did finally do some PT exercises–I timed myself and they took all of 6 minutes.
  • Wednesday: After reading a note from administration (we have a staffing shortage and things aren’t going to be normal for a while), and dealing with messages the nurse hadn’t gotten to, I took a walk before afternoon clinic. I think those 33 minutes may be the most relaxing 1/2 hour I get all day.
  • Thursday: I was planning to do PT exercises tonight, but instead I worked before and after dinner.
  • Friday: I spent most of the day either working, or catching up from earlier in the week. No exercise, but I ended the day with no weekend homework.

Total: 52 minutes walking, 30 minutes of strength training, and 1 session of my PT exercises, for a total of 88 minutes. I definitely did not meet my goals, but I am actually happy that I at least did my PT exercises. I am hopeful that I will do better as the month goes on.
