Fitness Log #176 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I took a walk in the neighborhood for what seems the first time in a long while (actually, it’s only been about 2 weeks; but they were long weeks), and I saw the first shoots of poking up of our early spring bulbs. Maybe winter will end sooner rather than later?
  2. Towards the end of the week, the work days were long, and I finally thought about self care options that fit my schedule. I concentrated on reading fiction before bed, with good results. This may or may not be a first, but labeling it as self-care, rather than self-indulgence, was a first.
  3. I had the “opportunity” to see a war start, on TV, in Ukraine. An opportunity I would just as rather never have again.

Fitness Log

For the first few months of 2022, the goal is to do my PT exercises 3 times a week, and get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

They do say March comes in like a lion.
  • Saturday:  I had a little time to work out, but was expecting a call from my intern. That translated into: I’ll hang out on my computer, until it’s too late to exercise. (No exercise).
  • Sunday:  A walk around the neighborhood (31 minutes) and PT after dinner.
  • Monday: Today was a very long day at work. Very long. By the time I got home, there was no interest in exercise. At all.
  • Tuesday: A better today today. Mr. PiN and I took a short turn around the neighborhood before dinner; this is usually a 5 minute walk, so that’s what I’ll call it (I did not time it).
  • Wednesday: No exercise, no PT.
  • Thursday: The same, no exercise.
  • Friday: No exercise, no PT.

Total: 36 minutes walking, PT practice x 1, for a total of 40 minutes. I am reminded that working in the hospital is time-consuming. Hopefully my next few weeks (out of the hospital) will be better.
