Fitness Log #202 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I taught my first in-person classes since the pandemic started. It was very strange going down hallways I hadn’t seen for over 2 and 1/2 years.
  2. Before teaching, I had to read the assignments, which were onerous. It has been years since I had to read something awful for a class; I do not miss it.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  My foot was still sore from yesterday. I puttered around but did not do much exercise.
  • Sunday:  That foot was still sore, and I was behind on a reading assignment (I haven’t had one of those for years!). There was a lot of sofa time as I slogged through my book.
  • Monday: A session with my trainer. 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday: I had thought to take a walk after work, but notes took longer than desired. Suddenly, it was time for a late dinner, and then it was dark. No exercise today.
  • Wednesday: I made up for yesterday (a little) with a short walk (19 minutes), and then a tennis lesson (60 minutes). It was warm on the court, but I felt great (if winded) running around a bit. Unfortunately, my teacher will be out of town for a few weeks.
  • Thursday: I came home early and thought I could walk after finishing my notes. Again, by the time they were done, it was dinner-time, and then my exercise ambitions were over.
  • Friday: A walk part-way home after work, 15 minutes.

Total: 34 minutes walking, 60 minutes of tennis, and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 124 minutes. Not my goal, but definitely better than some weeks.
