Fitness Log #396, Friday Firsts, Fabulousness, And Monthly Goals

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 7 years, and plan to continue doing so.

Since the pandemic started, I have been keeping track of “firsts,” and more lately, I have been trying to note good things (“fabulousness”). It’s a good way to pay attention and not let life slide by.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I met my retired friend at her local ice cream shop and we had our first ice creams of the summer. This was fabulous, as well as a first for the season.
  2. I watched live TV on an airplane trip.
  3. I met one of Mr. PiN’s relatives for the first time
  4. That relative lives in a town I had never been to, so that was a first as well.
  5. I forgot to sign out of my work e-mail while on vacation, a not-so-great first.

Fabulousness

Going on vacation was plain old fabulous.

We were out in the Rockies, in National Parks destination towns, which were beautiful.

The trip was centered around visiting family–Mr. PiN’s and mine–which was also great. We (family and the PiNs) made sure that family time was interspersed with tourist time.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

An oil painting of a meadow with horses in the foreground, a lake in the middle, and mountains in the background.
Not the mountains I saw, but an old view of the Rockies.
  • Saturday:  A gentle workout with my trainer (30 minutes), then a walk home from the ice cream shop (24 minutes) and “five minutes” of gardening which was probably longer.
  • Sunday:  A plane trip day.
  • Monday: Our destination is at a much higher altitude than home, and although Mr. PiN and I did walk around to sight see, we did not feel great, and we did not walk all that much. In the afternoon, we drove to visit his cousin, who lives at even higher altitude.
  • Tuesday: Still feeling the altitude. We went for a walk (billed as a “gentle hike”), and I was exhausted after 0.6 miles. I did make it back the other way to get to the car.
  • Wednesday: Today our activity was a long car ride, to visit my sister and her family. Not much exercise today either.
  • Thursday: Finally, finally, I felt better as far as altitude. I must be getting older, because I don’t remember it taking 4 days to get used to this when I visited my sister in my late 20s. She took me and Mr. PiN for a trip through one of the National Parks–it felt like we were in the car most of the day, but her phone claimed she walked 16,000 steps, so I guess I got in about 5 miles of walking in.
  • Friday: A more relaxed day, as my sister took me around town to show me what was new in her life since I was there last (new office, new community center). I have no idea of our step count.

Total: With some machinations to turn steps into miles, and miles into minutes, I would estimate 144 minutes of walking. Add in the workout with my trainer, and I hit 174 minutes of exercise. Less than my usual for a vacation, but still more than my goal!

Monthly Round Up

  • Exercise goals (150 minutes per week; but only 90 minutes when working on the hospital wards): Achieved in 3 of 4 weeks.
  • Clutter goals: No real achievements here.
  • Local Adventures. Visited that ice cream shop with my friend.
  • Social activity (one in-person activity per month and/or attending services). In addition to the ice cream socialization, Mr. PiN and I did host our friends for dinner. And saw his cousin and my sister (with family). I think we did plenty, even if it was all smushed (mostly) into 1 week.

I hope you have had a good week as well. Feel free to share any fabulous news of your own.
