Fitness Log #207 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. At the age of 53, I finally explored some of the state lands in walking distance of my parents’ house. What I thought of as just wild, tangled forest–a source of deer ready to dart across the road just as I drove by–turns out to be full of well-worn paths and evidence of teenage activities. I wish I hadn’t waited so long to explore (though, to be fair, it might not have been so pleasant when I was a teen).
an Autumnal landscape, with meadows and trees with colorful leaves
A different, but pleasant, look at trees in the same season.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

  • Saturday:  A hectic day trying to get out of town. We eventually postponed the trip, but I was too pooped to get exercise.
  • Sunday:  A travel day. No exercise.
  • Monday: A visiting day, no exercise.
  • Tuesday: Finally, finally, I got out of the house for a short exploratory walk. 27 minutes.
  • Wednesday: Another travel day.
  • Thursday: The first day back at work is always long. No time to exercise.
  • Friday: A nice walk after work, good for settling cranky nerves. 35 minutes.

Total: 62 minutes of walking, and a lot of travel. Not the greatest exercise week, but there were other benefits.

  1. Wow, you have such a good life. I tried walking but I over did it. I went from the bottom of Niagara falls to the top and back down. My knee was very sore and I couldn’t walk for a minute. I have scaled back and tried other ways to get healthy–nutrition.

    1. Niagara Falls is quite tall–climbing and then descending sounds really tough. I don’t know if I could do that! Thank you for stopping by.
