Fitness Log #224 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts or Fun

This week’s firsts:

  1. My first walk after a bakery visit this year.
  2. I’ve taken a few days off from work. I very much enjoyed sitting in my home office looking out at the snow, rather than slogging through it.
  3. I finally wore that (bath)robe Mr. PiN bought for me a few holidays ago. It was warm and soft and lovely on top of my clothes as I sat watching the snow through the windows.
  4. The week ended on a very bad note, with a morning call from my mom letting me know my dad had gone downhill. I live far enough away that I wasn’t able to get home before he had died.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

The week was all great, until it wasn’t.
  • Saturday:  Back to the bakery. I enjoyed a ride (near) there, and a walk back, with a cookie to encourage me on the way. 31 minutes.
  • Sunday:  I had hoped to return to the bakery (for a walk) but didn’t get out quickly enough to beat the precipitation. I eventually did a few sets of my PT exercises and ab work in front of the TV (I will call that 4 minutes).
  • Monday: A walk home after my COVID booster, 28 minutes. Then my training session (a little light on the deltoid action), 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday: I was feeling rather sluggish today. I stayed home and did MKSAP. By the end of the day, by muscles were letting me know that the workout from last night had been quite challenging.
  • Wednesday: Another walk back from the bakery, this time with olive sourdough bread. I wasn’t feeling all that peppy for my walk. 34 minutes.
  • Thursday: I felt better walking to my pick up point after a long day of work. 20 minutes.
  • Friday: Today was all about a long, last-minute trip. No exercise today.

Total: 113 minutes walking, 4 minutes PT/ab work, 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 147 minutes. I totally would have gotten 3 more minutes of exercise (likely a 2o minute walk) if there hadn’t been an emergency. On the whole, however, exercise goals became less pressing by the end of the week.
