Fitness Log #243, Friday Firsts, And Fabulousness

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for 4 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I got a bus pass for the first time in over a decade, as I prepared for Mr. PiN (my chauffeur) to leave town. I get the car, but I can’t get a parking spot at work, so walking or bus are my options.

Fabulousness

  1. My first morning waiting for the bus, a car stopped, then backed up to the bus stop. It was no other than one of my colleagues, who offered me a ride in. I was thrilled to accept.
A woman in dress and apron sitting on some rocks; behind her is a straw basket overflowing with grapes and grape vines
I bet she wouldn’t mind a bus ride back home either.

Fitness Log

The goal is to get 150 minutes of moderate exercise, of which (ideally) 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do during this hospital week?

  • Saturday:  A long day. No exercise, unless you count walking in the hospital.
  • Sunday:  Another tiring day. I was able to leave work a little early, but was too tired to entertain the thought of exercise.
  • Monday: No exercise today, either.
  • Tuesday: A very, very long day, with rain in the early evening. I had my bus pass, but decided to walk home. I didn’t want to wait for a long time and get caught if the rain returned; also, I was so annoyed by the day’s events, I needed the time to cool off. I estimate my walk lasted 40 minutes.
  • Wednesday: I planned to take the bus home, but ended up too impatient to wait. I was passed by my first bus when I was more than half-way home, so it was probably best that I walked. I was slower because of the poor air quality (I tried to walk a little less energetically), but I will just call this 40 minutes too.
  • Thursday: I caught the bus going in, got off a few stops early to get coffee. Took the bus home too. I totally did not time my walking, but I suspect 15 minutes is a safe bet (probably an underestimate).
  • Friday: Today I timed my walks to and from the bus stop (no getting off the bus a few stops early for coffee): 5 minutes on the way in, 10 minutes on the way back–so yesterdays’ estimate was probably a bit short. It doesn’t matter, I’m pretty sure I got to my goal anyway.

Total: 110 minutes walking, all though my commute. For a hospital week, I met my goal and then some.
