My Favorite Posts By Other People, January 2024

If all goes well, I will be at WCICON in Orlando next week, learning about personal finance, physician wellness, and meeting new people. Shoot me an e-mail if you will be there and would like to say hi in person!

In the meantime, I have a short list of my favorite posts from January for you to enjoy.

I have been following Dr. PayItBack‘s progress since early in his blogging career. It’s amazing what happens when you discuss your finances every month. He’s cut back on the frequency of his blogging, but published his Checkup for 2023. He is doing very well.

Mel at BrokeGirlRich may not be doing quite as well financially, but is doing very well for a graduate student studying abroad. Though she is hitting some obstacles, especially with reduced mobility (hopefully temporary!), as documented in her Accountability post for December 2023.

I like the personal finance philosophy of Blue Lobster at Millionaire on the Prairie. Her latest post describes something I have been doing for a long time (though I didn’t follow through on it for my last car): 4-Wheeled Money Pits Always Need a Sinking Fund.

Modern oil painting with a steamer ship, bridges, a dock, and other urban features.
I suspect these vehicles are also expensive to replace.

Over at Burning Desire for Fire, Frogdancer Jones is, I think, finally retiring. I was getting exhausted reading about her just-one-more teaching gigs, though I think she had a lot of fun using that extra money. Anyway, she wrote about switching gears on her superannuation account.

CrispyDoc is back from his blogging sabbatical. One of the things he has been doing while “away” has been dealing with his father’s progressive illness and death. As someone who also lost her father (relatively) recently, I appreciated his post about his father’s life and death, in The Long Goodbye.

That’s all for this month! If you have any of your own favorites, I’d love to hear about them.

  1. I woke up literally 5 minutes ago and read what you said in this post. I Laughed Out Loud. What a great way to start my day!
Yes, I’ve decided that I’ve confiscated my last phone and I’m putting away my whiteboard markers. I haven’t wasted a penny of the money I earned doing casual teaching, but it’s time to ENJOY.
Yesterday I had an amazingly great day on Kangaroo Island while every other teacher was back at work.
    🙂
