Fitness Log #163 And Friday Firsts

I have been keeping track of my exercise every Friday for over 3 years, and plan to continue doing so.

I started the Friday Firsts sections as a way of keeping track of some of my “firsts” as I dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. Things seem to be settling down, but I will keep it for now–more as a way to be aware and thankful of what is happening in my life.

Friday Firsts

This week’s firsts:

  1. I pretty much skipped Thanksgiving this year. Back when I was a resident (I think the last time I had to work this holiday), even then I got some sort of Thankgiving meal. I was on call this year, and couldn’t really see family. We opted to have our meal on Friday instead.
  2. I finally got my COVID booster. I suspect this will be the first of many, but I can hope the booster will offer prolonged immunity.

Fitness Log

As a reminder, my current goal is to make sure that I get 210 minutes a week of moderate exercise, of which 60 minutes should build strength (yoga counts); if I am working in the hospital, my goal is just 90 minutes, which is a more realistic stretch during those busy days.

How did I do?

A man and his dog sitting on the edge of a pond; a row boat in the pond and a sailboat further off. Dark storm clouds fill the upper sky.

  • Saturday:  After a super-cranky few days, I made a point of going out for a walk when the weather looked okay. 35 glorious minutes.
  • Sunday:  Walked before breakfast, since bad weather was forecast (incorrectly, as it turned out). It was very nice to get some fresh air and exercise first thing. 30 minutes.
  • Monday: I enjoyed my walks this weekend so much, I finagled a walk home from the post office, 23 minutes, and then worked with my trainer for 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday: No exercise today after a long day.
  • Wednesday: I had a bit of a meltdown after work. I walked even though it was dark, 26 minutes.
  • Thursday: I thought I would exercise today, but the day slipped away from me. I did not feel like walking in the dark (which seems to come early this time of year).
  • Friday: I had planned to exercise in the morning, before getting my COVID booster. The weather and my energy level did not cooperate, and I ended up logged in at my computer most of the day until dark (except for my outing to the vaccination center). I felt bad falling down on the exercise plans, but getting that booster was probably more beneficial to my health overall.

Total: 114 minutes walking and 30 minutes of strength training, for a total of 144 minutes. I was really on a roll until the holiday. I can see with the shorter and colder days, I will have to find some exercise videos I can commit to. Or figure out how to get back to yoga. Sigh.
