Future Me, January 2021

I started this series of posts at the end of October 2018. I had just cut back my hours from full time to 90%, and wanted to use my new free time wisely. Some of that time was to relax, but I also wanted to improve my fitness, make my home a more pleasant place to stay, and work on becoming a more well-rounded human being.

My last update was in September 2020, with a number of wins, and several misses.

So how have I done with my new goals? Read on for the latest update, covering the last 4 months of 2020.

Future Me, September 2020

I started this series of posts at the end of October 2018. I had just cut back my hours from full time to 90%, and wanted to use my new free time wisely. Some of that time was to relax, but I also wanted to improve my fitness, make my home a more pleasant place to stay, and work on becoming a more well-rounded human being.

My last update was in June of this year, with a number of wins, and several misses versus abandonment of goals (that darned pandemic!).

Here is my 3 month update. I have been giving myself plenty of slack, as between COVID and worrying about the other big C, my brain has been very busy this summer.

Future Me, June 2020

I started this series of posts at the end of October 2018. I had just cut back my hours from full time to 90%, and wanted to use my new free time wisely. Some of that time was to relax, but I also wanted to improve my fitness, make my home a more pleasant place to stay, and work on becoming a more well-rounded human being.

My last update was in March of this year, with a few wins, and a bunch of misses. I set new goals, based on my predictions of what life might look like with a pandemic sweeping through.

I had planned to follow up at the end of May. I’m a little late, but rounding things up after 13 weeks of dealing with COVID-19.

Interview With PracticeBalance

Today my interview over at PracticeBalance is going up. Feel free to go check it out if you want to know more about me and how I try to maintain some balance in my life.

If you have arrived here after reading my interview with Dr. Dawn Baker, welcome to the blog. Most things related to life balance will probably be found in my Future Me posts or Fitness Logs, but maybe you will find something else that piques your interest. Feel free to poke around and drop a note if you want to say hi.

Future Me, COVID-19 Follow Up

I started this series of posts at the end of October 2018. I had just cut back my hours from full time to 90%, and wanted to use my new free time wisely. Some of that time was to relax, but I also wanted to improve my fitness, make my home a more pleasant place to stay, and work on becoming a more well-rounded human being.

My last update was in January of this year, with a few wins, and a bunch of misses. I set new goals, many of which are not going to be possible to hit given the new recommendations around social distancing (#flattenthecurve).

I had planned to follow up at the end of May, but I would like to review my progress so far, and offer some course correction to my goals for the next few months.

Future Me, January 2020 Follow Up

I started this series of posts at the end of October 2018, when I cut back my hours from full time to 90%. At the time I was dealing with overwork and atrophy of my personal life; I worried that I would waste the extra time I was buying myself with my pay cut.

I started with 10 Steps to Future Me. In mid-February 2019, I reviewed my goals from October, and came up with some new ones. In May of 2019 my father’s illness derailed my regular life, and I was pretty forgiving about missing most of my goals in the mid-June update. The work load over the summer was hefty, and again my September 2019 update had many missed marks.

I had planned to follow up at the end of the year, so it’s time to revisit September’s goals and see how I stand with them.

Financial Future Me 2020

This weekend I spent a little time going through our expenses for last year, after having calculated our net worth for January 1. I’m not planning to reveal all our numbers here–Mr. Physician in Numbers (despite his suggesting the blog name) doesn’t want our numbers revealed on the Internet. But I will say, overall, we did pretty well in 2019.

We spent a little less than the year before, almost entirely due to reducing spending on travel. Our net worth went up ridiculously, almost entirely due to the stock market, over whose performance I have absolutely no control.

My New Year’s financial tasks completed, it seems fitting that I formulate some goals for 2020.
