My Favorite Posts By Other People, June 2023

I usually read a lot of personal finance blogs every day. June was tough, though. I was quite busy, and my favorite blog roll stopped updating daily. I didn’t read so many posts, but here are the few that stood out for me.

I don’t think debt is a dirty word, or the biggest evil in the modern world, but I do agree with getting rid of it as a priority (not before investing, of course, but soon). So I totally agree with Dr. Cory Fawcett’s post, Yes, You Should Pay Off That 3% Home Mortgage.

I don’t know if these posts are “beach reading,” but for sure I caught up with my reading on vacation at the beginning of the month.

Mel at BrokeGirlRich planned to save some money with her homegrown mint. How much did she save? The answer isn’t back yet, but it sounds like she spent about $28 to save $10. Sometimes it’s expensive to be “frugal.”

Frogdancer Jones at Burning Desire for FIRE retired from full-time teaching several years ago, but has been working again as a substitute for the past two (ish). I love how she has a goal that she funds with each assignment: a trip to Antarctica, a wedding, clown college, (no mint). But she has sounded quite tired recently. I was happy to read her post I finally did it! I knocked back work.

In the past 2 weeks, I have been glued to the computer–mostly for work, a little for entertainment. I enjoyed this post at The Belle Curve, Numbers on a Screen. Remembering that the numbers in accounts represent real money, that can be used on real things, with real life consequences, is worth thinking about once in a while.

Lastly, this post from Becoming Minimalist spoke to me this past week. Tackle Your Clutter Battles: 5 Life-Changing Questions was what I needed to hear as I came off a few weeks in the hospital and have time to deal with the mess that has accumulated.

  2. I think you’re right! I AM tired.
That’s why I’ve decided, after painting one coat on the ceiling and walls of my ensuite, to hire a painter instead. It was making my life a misery.
That’ll be how I spend my term 3 contract money, teaching 3 days/week until I go to the UK.

    1. It’s nice to have goals. Yours are so clear; mine are still nebulous, since I’m not quite clear how much I really need to retire (though I think I am getting closer to figuring that out).
